On July 8, 2024, this Full Moon Wolf pendant flew to the stratosphere onboard an Earth to Sky Calculus cosmic ray research balloon. For 3 hours, it floated 106,444 feet above the Sierra Nevada mountains of central California while radiation sensors inside the balloon's payload gathered data for the students' cosmic ray monitoring project.
After the balloon exploded, as planned, the payload parachuted back to Earth, landing near the Silver Peak lithium mines in western Nevada, more than 100 miles from the launch site. The pendant had a wild ride, and the students got great data for their atmospheric radiation monitoring program.
This gift comes with a greeting card showing the necklace in flight and telling the story of its journey to the edge of space and back.
