On Jan. 24, 2025, the students of Earth to Sky Calculus launched a cosmic ray balloon to the stratosphere. This 24K plated gold dipped rose went along for the ride. At the apex of the flight, the forever preserved bloom was 115,823 feet above the Sierra Nevada mountains of central California, touching the edge of space.
After the balloon exploded (as planned) the payload parachuted back to Earth, landing on the outskirts of Death Valley National Park. The rose had a wild ride, and the students got great data for their cosmic ray monitoring program.
The rose comes with a greeting card showing the item in flight and telling the story of its journey to the stratosphere and back again. It makes a great Valentine's, Mother's Day, or romantic birthday gift.
